A Florida man has been arrested, accused of trying to set an infant on fire in New York.

According to WPBF, deputies were called to a truck stop in Tyre around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning for a report of multiple fires.

Deputies arrested 28-year-old Jamie L. Avery Jr., of West Palm Beach, and a second suspect, for allegedly starting the fires.

Officials then discovered a 1-year-old baby covered in a flammable substance.

"It is alleged that the two suspects had poured a flammable liquid on the 1-year-old child and attempted to light the child on fire inside the building. Luckily the two were unsuccessful," said Lt. Timothy Thompson during a news conference.

A "suspicious device" was found in the bathroom but first responders ultimately determined it was a "makeshift replica" of a bomb.

A 4-year-old child was also found abandoned in the cab of a tractor-trailer. The child was taken to the hospital where it was discovered the toddler had head injuries.

"Circumstances surrounding the 4-year-old are still under investigation," Thompson said.

Avery Jr. was charged with attempted aggravated murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree arson, second-degree attempted arson, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The second suspect is expected to be identified and charged in the near future.
