DOWNEY — The City Council on Tuesday will consider replacing its aging ladder truck with a new engine although it will take nearly two years to receive the new emergency vehicle due to supply chain issues.

The new fire truck will be purchased from South Cast Fire Equipment Inc. at a price of $1,851,095. It replaces a 2005 ladder truck currently in service as a front line, emergency response apparatus.

According to Fire Chief Dan Hurlock, the current truck has been in service more than 16 years and is scheduled for replacement.

Once the new truck arrives, the current engine will be placed in reserve status and used only when necessary due to maintenance or emergencies.

Officials anticipate it will take 22 months to manufacture the truck after the order is placed.
