SIX reconditioned trucks from Japan have been presented to the PNG Fire Services.

The trucks from Japan consist of one pumper with tank with a water capacity of 3000L, 1 chemical pumper with a water capacity of 1300L and foam capacity of 12000L, 1 rescue truck and 3 pumpers. The trucks were brought in on a cost of K276, 613 provided by the Embassy of Japan and K6, 492 from the PNG Fire Service.

Presenting the trucks was Deputy Chief of Mission to PNG Hiroshi Nawata.

Mr Nawata said that the trucks were compact, which allowed for parking to be done anywhere and the trucks could maneuver through busy city roads and crowded streets to reach the scene of a fire.

“I believe that this project has been proposed in a timely fashion as the impending APEC meeting has prompted the PNG Fire Service to scrutinize its capacity.

“I commend the PNG government for its continuous support to the Fire Service especially with an interjection of K18 million during the 2018 Budget, the Government of PNG is pleased with the support of the PNG Government’s efforts to improve the capacity of the PNG Fire Service through the provision of these six trucks.

“I would like to thank the Government of Australia in partnering with the Government of Japan in this endeavour,” Mr Nawata said.
