Almost all examples of the top-of-range Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain sold over a two-year period are being recalled because a large section of the tonneau cover trim could fall off when driving, posing a danger to the cars behind.
Isuzu Ute Australia has recalled 7106 examples of its 2020-2021 Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain models because a large section of the roller-shutter tonneau cover trim – the aluminium garnish on the top of the tray, behind the back window – could fall off at speed, causing a potential road safety hazard for other traffic.
Relating specifically to D-Max X-Terrain variants, the count of 7106 affected vehicles suggests the majority of X-Terrain variants sold by Isuzu in Australia since launch are affected.
While roller-shutter covers are a popular aftermarket accessory across the ute market, the ones on the Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain are fitted at the Thailand factory.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing issue, the roller tonneau front cover screws may become loose and fall out. If this occurs the tonneau front cover may detach from the vehicle while driving."

Isuzu Ute Australia says it will contact owners in writing to advise them to make an appointment at their nearest Isuzu Ute dealer for inspection and rectification free of charge.
