The vision that stands out most to Jamie Inglis about the annual Star Spangled Parade and Celebration is the moment when she and her colleagues first see the massive crowds donning red, white and blue and soaking in the Fourth of July festivities.

"It makes me proud to be in LO and be (part of) a hub of Fourth of July celebrations for the Portland metro area," Inglis, the events and organic education supervisor for the city of Lake Oswego, said.

After a two-year hiatus, the parade is back this year. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with staging at 9 a.m.) across A Avenue in town to Millennium Plaza Park.

However, Inglis noted that celebrations will truly begin the night before with a performance by the Millennium Concert Band at 7 p.m. July 3, also at Millennium Plaza Park.

At the parade, there will be decorated floats and vehicles, collector cars, a fire engine, representation from local nonprofit organizations and more. Also, DJ Avalanche will play tunes in the Parks and Recreation float and attendees can expect performances from the Traditional Fife & Drum Band, Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers & White Lotus Dragon, and Lion Dance. Unsung heroes will also be highlighted at the event. Inglis said she expects to see close to 6,000 people this year. A D V E R T I S I N G | Continue reading below

"I think that the Fourth of July festivities in LO are everything that's special about our community. It includes residents from all across the area and a variety of groups that make LO a special place to live and play. You get to see your friends and neighbors and really celebrate the USA," Inglis said.

In conjunction with the parade, there will also be a celebration at Millennium Plaza Park from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring live music, face-painting, food vendors and a pie-eating contest. Inglis also noted that viral sensation and award winning vocalist Onry will perform the national anthem.

To cap the day, there will be an Independence Day Illumination Concert & Laser Light Show 8-10:30 p.m., July 4 at Foothills Park. The lasers will illuminate the sky at 10 p.m.

"We received positive feedback (to the laser light show) as an alternative to fireworks, especially with all of the wildfires we've seen in the Pacific Northwest," Inglis said.
